How we collect, use, and protect your information. We don’t sell your data.

1. Who we are

Host Shield (“we”, “our”) provides short-term rental compliance information. This policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our website and services.

2. Information we collect

  • Account and identity: Email address when you sign in (magic link) or when you purchase a report.
  • Property and usage: Property address you enter for lookup; optional Airbnb listing URL; IP address for geolocation and security.
  • Payment: Payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store full card numbers; we receive and store only what Stripe provides (e.g., last four digits, billing email) as needed for receipts and support.
  • Content you upload: Permits or other documents you upload to your compliance vault are stored by us to display on your report and for download.
  • Usage data: We use product analytics (e.g., PostHog) to collect usage data such as pages visited and feature use, to improve the Service. See our Trust Center for subprocessors.

3. How we use your information

We use your information to: provide the lookup, report, and vault; process payments; send you the report link, magic-link sign-in emails, and (if you subscribe) monitoring alerts; understand product usage via analytics to improve the Service; and comply with law. We do not sell your personal information.

4. Sharing

We share data only as needed with service providers (e.g., Stripe for payments, Resend for email, Google for geocoding, PostHog for product analytics). See our Trust Center for subprocessors. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights and safety.

5. Retention

We retain your account data, report data, and uploaded documents for as long as your account or report is active and as needed for legal and operational purposes. You may request deletion of your data; see “Your rights” below.

6. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data (HTTPS, secure storage, access controls). See our Trust Center for more on security.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your data, or to object to or restrict processing. To exercise these rights or ask questions, contact us using the details in our Trust Center.

8. Cookies and similar tech

We use session cookies and similar technology necessary for the Service (e.g., sign-in, CSRF). Our product analytics provider (PostHog) may use cookies or similar tech to measure usage; we use this only to improve the product. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

9. Children

The Service is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy here and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
